Giuseppe Miraglia started life as a ferry for the Italian State Railway Company, but was the Regia Marina acquired her and converted her into a seaplane carrier. Her originally complement were seventeen Macchi M.18s, which were later upgraded to IMAM Ro.43s. She was present at the Battle of Taranto, and operated throughout the war within the Mediterranean to provide reconnaissance. Upon the Italian surrender, she was interned at Malta, but was appropriated by the British to serve as a tender for motor torpedo boats. After the war, she carried former Italian prisoners of war back to Italy, and served as a barrack ship in Taranto.
