I was thinking about allowing an offensive AA activation for ships with enemy aircraft within 10cm? The other thing was allowing an aggresive CAP attack against enemy air formations within intercept range? I realize that most fighters would be tasked with either an escort or defensive posture mission. But a fightrt pilot is what he is....

I also considered this when writing the air rules, but we have to keep in mind the fact that we have 20/20 vision on the table. In reality air groups passed along each other pretty often without noticing each other. In all battles: Coral Sea, Midway, Santa Cruz and Eastern Solomons, I found only one time they actually engaged during transit: At the Battle of Santa Cruz;
"At 08:40, the opposing aircraft strike formations passed within sight of each other. Nine Zeros from Zuihō surprised and attacked the Enterprise group, attacking the climbing aircraft from out of the sun. In the resulting engagement, four Zeros, three Wildcats, and two TBFs were shot down, with another two TBFs and a Wildcat forced by heavy damage to return to Enterprise.[36] The remaining Zuihō Zeros, having exhausted their ammunition, withdrew from the action."
I fear that since players know each others course and heading on the table, allowing this in the game would lead to very unhistorical mid-flight intercepts as a staple tactic. It was incredibly rare.

I see your point. I guess I am struggling finding out how best position the CAP.
